BEWARE – MONSTERS Coming to the NCM Motorsports Park for the 2014 Monster Dash!

We are excited to announce the 2014 Joseph's Hope Foundation  Monster Dash.  We've got a lot of new things to reveal for this year.  See below for details of what's new:

  • We are changing locations to the new NCM MOtorsports Park at the National Corvette Museum.  This change in venue opens up o alot of possibilities for our future races, plus this will cure our pst parking problems.  The new racetrack has parking spaces for around 500 vehicles, so no more hunting for  place to squeeze your vehicle on race night.
  • We're also adding a new leg to the race.  The new course is 3.15 miles for one lap around the track.  This enables us to add a 10K leg, beginning with the 2014 race and beyond.
  • With the addtional space, we will have a nice "infield" area where we can have lots of sponsor booths and fun things for the kids to do after they complete their obstacle race and trick-or-trail walk.
  • Beginning with the 2014 race, we will be offering a bag check station.
  • Not necessarily new this year, but something I don't think many have been aware of in the past is our early-bird registration doorprize drawings.  We will have several different early-bird doorprize registration deadlines.  Each will enable those registered by the specific deadlines to be entered for special doorprize drawings (gift cards to Nat's Outdoor Sports, Trax Running, etc.).  Entering by the first early-bird deadline enters you into all of the early-bird drawings, so enter early and get your chance at one of the great early-bird prizes.

There are over 147 million orphans world wide.  That's the reason for the Monster Dash 5K.  Proceeds from the race will be used for orphan care (through providing adoption support/financial assistance and meeting needs of domestic and interntional orphanages).

This is a night run/walk.  Who'd want anything else for Halloween, right?

The first component will feature a 10K run or a 5K run/walk around the course at the new NCM Motorsports Park track.   Spooky, huh? It should be, it's Halloween!  For your safety, on the back poriton of the course, your path will be lit by luminaries in remembrance of those who dared to brave the Monster Dash but were never seen or heard from again!  In all seriousnes though, the darker,  back portion of the course will indeed be lit by hundreds of glowing luminaries and there will be safety tents spread throughout the course.

The second component is the Monster Crawl, a kid's obstacle race, that will be sponsored and hosted by Vette City CrossFit.  Parents, no need to worry about your kids getting their costumes ruined or muddy, this is not a mud obstacle course.  There will be fitness related challenges appropriate for children 10 and under.

The third component is a fun trick-or-treat style walk.  (what's more fun than getting candy while you walk)?  This is intended for families to come out and have a fun, but safe night.  There will be trick-or-treat stations set up an manned by volunteer groups.

Remember, this is a Monster Dash, so what will you be?  (costumes are welcome and encouraged, but please make sure they are appropriate to wear around children. After all, children are the main beneficiaries of our event).

The Monster Dash is Coming.  Are you ready?

ORDER OF EVENTS

The Kid's Monster Crawl Obstacle Race will start at 6:30PM and will be run in heats of varying ages (i.e, 4-5 year olds will run together, 6&7 year olds together, 8,9 & 10 year olds together, etc.).  This race shoudl take approximately 15-20 minutes.

The Monster Dash 5K and 10K will start promptly after the completion of the kid's obstacle race.  This should start between 7:00PM.  (Please note that we are considering the option to run the 5K and 10K separately in case some participants want to do a Mega Monster Challenge and complete bothe the 5K and 10K).  We will know soon whether or not this will be a possibility.  Should we be able to proceed with this format, we will begin ghe 5K at 7PM and the 10K will start at 8PM.  Otehrwise, both races will start at 7PM.

The Trick-or-Treat fun walk will be ongoing throughout the evening.  We will begin this piece around 5:30 for families that are participating in this event and the 5K/10K.  This will enable those families to complete the trick-or-trail fun walk with their children and be ready for the start of the 5K/10K.  This will also continue until after the 5K event is finished to ensure everyone has a chance to participate in this fun trick-or-treat mile walk.

Pre-registration is encouraged by October 10, 2014.  This will help us ensure we have the proper quantity and sizes of Monster Dash tech shirts available for race day.  Regiatrations after that date will also receive the shirt, but they may have to be fulfilled after the event..  On-line registrations must be complete by Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Sign-in and on-site registration will begin at 4:30PM on race day at the NCM Motorsports Park. Due to a massive number of late registrations and issues with getting the registration information imported into the timing system, we will be closing on-site registration at precisely 6PM on the evening of the race.  (Shoud we have a split between the 5K and 10K and run the races at different times, registration for the 10K "may" be extended.

There will be a party and packet pick-up event on Friday, October 24 beginning at 4:30 PM.  This will be held at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center (on the convention center side).
